Reviews Overview

Many patrons rave about the warm, friendly service from the two ladies running the shop; their personal touch truly enhances the overall experience. The hygiene ratings are impressive, with every category scoring 'Very Good'—this is not always a given in the fast-food industry, which adds to the appeal. The generous portions of freshly cooked fish and chips draw repeat visitors, and several menu items, including three different curry sauces, have become local favorites. Plus, the reasonable price range ensures that families can enjoy a meal without breaking the bank.

Most Disliked

While King Edward St Chippy generally receives rave reviews, some customers have mentioned that the portion sizes for chips could be larger. A few reviews hint at a desire for more variety in the side options, which could enhance the overall experience. Although everything else is typically on point, the limited space may make it less appealing during peak hours. Additionally, the casual atmosphere might not suit everyone's idea of dining out, especially for those looking for a more upscale experience.

I'm very old -- I remember when it was Ridings in the 1950's. I left the area in 1959 and have lived in California for years. It was the best chippy then and I'm happy to see that it still seems to be so now :-)

Love it! You can also tell that In the food hygiene ratings website, all of the categories are at the top ‘Very Good’ hygiene rating which makes it even better and it’s never usual for the fish & chip shops to have that. Once I eat more from there, I will try different foods from there since this is our local chippy since moving into a new house due to our previous house was flooded. I also like how it is next to Waterfield’s which means if there are stuff that isn’t there, you can use Waterfield’s for foods (e.g. Sausage Rolls, Breakfast)

Everything as it should be. A propper chippy. Still use newspaper for wrapping certain things. Chips cooked properly, 3 different curry sauces, fresh cooked fish. Lovely staff, good prices. Hope this place stays the same for years to come. Not enough proper old school chippies around anymore. Keep using them, everyone.

We never ordinarily have takeaways, but last Saturday after a very long and busy day decided to order from here. Called up and placed an order for collection 10 minutes later. The food was extremely tasty, fresh and nicely cooked. Ladies working there were very pleasant and chatty when I went in to collect the food. Will definitely go there again in future for fish and chips and would highly recommend. If there was one criticism to make, it would simply be that the chips with each meal could have been a slightly bigger portion, otherwise it was fantastic!
